Almaden Brewing Company
BRANDING / PACKAGING / ILLUSTRATION
Meaning "the mine" in Arabic, Almaden is a historic community and home to some of the oldest mercury mines in California. With true grit, a few heirloom hops, and a timeless family recipe, Almaden Brewing Company has been crafting simple pleasures naturally since 1846.
LOGO DESIGN PROCESS
A lantern and hop are combined, uniting Almaden’s unique mining history and the role of agriculture in each can of beer. The shaky, hand-drawn logo style reflects the brewery’s dedication to craftsmanship and small batch production.
COLOR PALETTE
Each color represents natural elements or landmarks found in Almaden – Cinnabar Hills, Calero Creek, Country View, gold and moss. Cinnabar is a red-orange mercury ore found in the Almaden mines and was used to produce quicksilver.
ILLUSTRATED ICONS
The non-alcoholic Cinnabar Hills color is green (contrasting the reddish hue), signifying a healthier alternative to the original Cinnabar Hills. Its illustration includes a mercury mine that has been boarded off and overgrown with moss, further distinguishing it from the alcoholic version.
